Ummeed
The current Indian scenario of increasing costs of healthcare, the shrinking public healthcare system and makes an illness, specially a prolonged one, a nightmare for the poor. Our Ummeed Health Programme is an attempt to support patients and their families through sharing information on accessible and affordable treatment, advocacy and support to Mumbai based Chronic Kidney Disease patients.
Our Initiatives

Support
Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) means lifelong treatment costs of dialysis or kidney transplant medicines. We support CKD patients in Mumbai, who meet our criteria. We also support patients who have been associated with our Community Centres for a range of high cost and long running treatments.

Advocacy
More than two decades of intensive grassroot level interaction with patients and their families has given us insights that have translated into our issue based work on patients’ rights. Our Advocacy efforts have focused on treatment related facilities & costs as well as transport related issues of CKD patients. We were able to get the Maharashtra State Health Insurance Scheme take a comprehensive approach to the treatment needs of CKD patients, succeeded in getting facilities in buses in 7 Municipal Corporations in Mumbai and suburban Mumbai as well as in State Transport Buses.

Ekta Support Group
Of CKD patients and their families, this group offers critical support in the ‘Why Me’ phase. They spread awareness on CKD prevention and early detection, so that others do not have to suffer what they have themselves. Their collective strength helps take up issues that affect CKD patients at a city wide level.
